Confronted with the pressing issue of climate change and the detrimental effects of overflowing landfills in Hong Kong, our team recognized the need for a more effective solution, as current efforts by the government and schools have not been able to adequately address this concern. In response, we developed DGS Zero - an innovative app that raises awareness about carbon footprint and encourages recycling among DGS students. Driven by a broader vision, DGS Zero extends beyond our school community and helps promote waste reduction within the entire educational sector of Hong Kong, cultivating a society where every individual is actively aware of their impact on the environment. Through the app, users can easily track and record their recycling efforts, while the automatic calculation of their total carbon footprint reduction serves as a constant motivation to continue their eco-friendly habits. Additionally, our app offers incentives to further encourage users to take tangible actions towards a greener future. Developed using Xcode and ensuring the integrity of uploaded images through Firebase, DGS Zero is a reliable and comprehensive solution that helps create a more environmentally-conscious society, ultimately striving towards the goal of carbon neutrality and contributing to the betterment of our world.
